Annual Product Upgrade

 Instructions

It is important to run the latest version of SoftTouch for the best experience for your client. There are a few important steps to take and consider before running an upgrade. Make sure the system is operational to begin with. This means the client is able to go into BackOffice as well as run SoftTouch.

Prepare the system for the Upgrade

  1.  Make sure the Z has run successfully and the merchant is not currently in business hours.

  2. Make sure all checks are closed and client stations are powered down.

  3. Make a backup of the Database from BackOffice. Administration > Data Maintenance > Backup to Local C Drive

  4. Turn off the redundancy. Miscellaneous > DB Maintenance > Activate Data Redundancy > Deactivate Redundancy

  5. Run SoftData which can be found in C:\SoftTouch\SoftData.exe

  6. Select the "Stop all SoftTouch services" option

  7. Go to the printer’s section and make a note of all templates being used by each printer. Hardware > Printers/Coursing > Print Groups

  8. Go to the templates section and save each template to the desktop, naming them accordingly. Administration > Templates

  9. Make sure SoftTouch and BackOffice are closed.

     

Download the Software Upgrade

  1. Download the most recent version of SoftTouch from Confluence.

  2. Run the program and extract to the C drive in a folder named after the Version. (Ex. 6.5.66E).

  3. Enter the password to allow the extraction to begin: softtouch600

  4. Once extracted, open the folder, and find the SoftTouch Installer.

 

Begin the Software Upgrade

  1. Click “Upgrade Server Software” in the Installer.

  2. Run through the installation as you normally would. (Leave all defaults alone and follow instructions on screen.)

  3. You may have to click Next twice for the files to begin upgrading.

  4. When the files are upgrading, most of the time, an error will pop up, make sure you keep an eye on it and press Ok when those errors show, or the upgrade will not continue.

  5. Once the files have been upgraded click finish and let the computer reboot twice.

  6. Once it’s back up and running, go back into BackOffice and copy and paste the templates back into the corresponding sections.

  7. Reactivate the redundancy drive. Miscellaneous > DB Maintenance > Activate Data Redundancy > Activate

If you are on version 5.X.X then you may have to manually upgrade all of the Version 5 stations to Version 6 by using the using the "Install "Client & BackOffice" Software" option within the "Client Installations" section of the SoftTouch Installer.
