Coursing

Coursing

Coursing allows you to break individual menu items into separate courses on the remote kitchen chit. This makes it easier for chefs and cooks to read the order and time the preparation of food appropriately.

SoftTouch has two coursing methods:

  • Standard Coursing
  • Coursing with AutoFire

Standard Coursing

When an order is keyed in with Coursing enabled, the items are grouped into pre-configured courses.

Standard Coursing - Changing Course

Example: A guest ordered an appetizer, but wants it served at the same time as the other guests' sides.

  1. Highlight the item on the check and touch the Change Course button.
  2. Choose the Sides course.
  3. The appetizer will now be sent to the kitchen in the Sides category.

Coursing with AutoFire

SoftTouch allows you to course items and then have them fire to the kitchen at pre-specified times, meaning you can place an entire order at once and the kitchen will receive only the courses that are to be made at that time.

When you ring up an order with AutoFire enabled, you will see that the firing time for each item directly follows the item on the check (configured in BackOfficePrinters/Coursing). These times decrease as the minutes pass and allow the server to see where the order is in relationship to the courses being made in the kitchen. At any time, the server can open the check to view the time remaining until an item prints to the kitchen. Once an item has printed to the kitchen, it will no longer be bold or italicized.

Changing Course Times

Example: A table is taking a bit more time than usual to finish their appetizers.

  1. Highlight the next course's items on the check and touch the Course Time button.
  2. Enter the amount of time to wait until firing the order and hit ENTER.

Example: A table is finishing their appetizer faster than expected.

  1. Highlight the desired courses on the check and press the Hold/Fire Course button.
  2. Press the Send button. The time will disappear and the order will fire immediately.
